At Home Migraine Therapy Techniques

Migraines are one of the most common injuries; people experience them everyday for varying reasons, and the market is filled with over the counter medicines for treating them. If you don’t want to spend the money on expensive drugs, or simply wish to use natural methods, there are many therapy techniques you can do to get rid of a migraine. If you have a more severe condition, like frequent migraines for example, you will want to consult your physician immediately. While these techniques can be used to alleviate the pain associated with a migraine, they generally work best with a normal tension headache.

Home-based Migraine Therapy

Rest
One of the simplest yet effective ways to eliminate a migraine is by getting adequate rest. A lack of sleep can contribute to a number of conditions, and migraines are no exception. Be sure to get 8 hours of healthy sleep a night, and make sure to sleep in a room that is dark and free from distractions. Flashing lights and colors (televisions) can both trigger and worsen a headache, especially migraines, and viewing them should be kept to a minimum in the bedroom.
A cool washcloth on your forehead
You can also place a cool, damp washcloth on your forehead. Be sure to ring out any excess water and lay the cloth over your face. If necessary, feel free to target the area that hurts the most. This may be on the sides of your head at your temples, or in the rear.
Relaxation exercises
You can also employ relaxation exercises to help stop and prevent migraines from occurring in the future. The main cause for tension migraines is stress. You can relax your body by performing breathing exercises or other similar methods.
Take a hot bath and apply an ice pack
Heat and ice are very effective ways to reduce pain. Taking a hot path can soothe your aching muscles and double as a relaxation technique. You can add bath soaps made for this specific reason (lavender is a very popular sleep aid). Take an ice pack or washcloth wrapped around ice cubes for compression purposes.
The best way to alleviate your migraine pain is by combining these home migraine therapy techniques. Ideally, you will want to use them all. Doing so will greatly minimize the amount of pain you are experiencing. Again, if you have recurring headaches or frequent migraines, these techniques will not be cure.
